Hosting Migration 2.0

I’ve now switched hosting companies for this site from Rackspace Cloud to another VPS provider, prgmr.com. During my time with Rackspace I haven’t really experienced any major issues though my server did once have some downtime for a few hours. Rather, I’ve moved because prgmr.com offer an even less managed service and I don’t need all the extra features that Rackspace can provide.

On a somewhat related note, the site now uses SSL for logging in and registration which makes it inherently more secure to use.

Hosting Migration

I’ve decided to  move the site over to a different web host since I’ve not really ever had satisfactory service from my current host, Servage.

Servage offer shared-managed hosting which they appear to oversell to a massive degree. The terrible MySQL performance I pretty consistently got from them was the biggest deal breaker I experienced.

With these issues in mind I’ve moved over to using a Cloud Server from Rackspace Cloud instead. This is an unmanaged VPS solution meaning that the software side of the server is entirely administrated and controlled by me.

The blog is now migrated across after I’ve spent the past couple of weeks setting up the server the way I want. Everything should work fine but there may be some minor issues that need to be sorted out such as resource constraints, for example.

Blog Reboot

A couple of months ago I made a post on here stating that I was going to reset this blog. This post marks the fact that I have now done so as planned.

I’ve done this mainly for one reason. I originally started this blog as a means to post news about programs I develop (games in particular) and over time the content became pretty diluted ending up as a load of stuff that really wasn’t relevant at all.  So, I’ve deleted all the posts and am going to use the blog anew for the purpose I originally intended.

So on that note from now on all the posts you find here should at least be relevant to stuff I develop :P .
